Epidemic Answers’ Documenting Hope Project is seeking integrative health coach for role in innovative pediatric research study in Northern VA

The Documenting Hope FLIGHT™ Study (Facilitated Longitudinal Intensive Investigation of Genuine Health Transformation WIRB Protocol # 20200327)

 FLIGHT™ is a multi-year research study that investigates whether a community-based “whole child” model of care results in better outcomes for children with complex chronic and developmental conditions. This is, to our knowledge, the first prospective study to rigorously document such an approach. It has both scientific and educational objectives. This study will be documented on film.

Summary of the Opportunity

The FLIGHT™ Study is seeking an integrative Health Coach to provide organizational, educational and emotional support for a family(ies) enrolled in the FLIGHT™ Study. The FLIGHT™ Study Health Coach supports enrolled families as they participate in FLIGHT™ Study activities including clinical visits, home assessments, health and lifestyle changes and more.  The FLIGHT™ Study Health Coach will work closely with the FLIGHT™ Study Program Director and other members of FLIGHT™ Study team.  For details about the FLIGHT Study visit: www.documentinghope.com/flight-study

Activities Include

  • Support family over 18 months of an intensive, structured research study including:
    • At least weekly contact with each family
    • Accompany family to clinical visits if requested
    • Help families perform sample collections, learn to use wearable devices, and complete paperwork for home laboratory and other assessments
    • Provide educational support for diet and lifestyle changes recommended by the participant’s healthcare providers
  • Collaborate with other members of the family’s local integrative team of health practitioners including:
    • Opportunity to participate in weekly team meetings
    • Provide feedback to the study team about the family’s experiences and progress
  • Participate in a cutting-edge research study with an opportunity to:
    • Learn from key thought leaders and experts
    • Utilize new technologies for delivering personalized care
    • Learn about optimizing health outcomes
    • Deliver real-time data to the study team (including completing surveys and submitting routine logs)
    • Reflect on the study process
  • Using the Health Coach’s knowledge and skills, assist family in orienting to new routines and support measures such as:
    • Diet modifications
    • Cooking/food preparation
    • Mindfulness practices
    • Sleep hygiene
    • Movement/exercise practices
    • Using data collection tools

Skills and Knowledge Base

  • Experience working with parents on behalf of children
  • Experience with individualized nutrition needs in complex chronic illness
  • Familiarity with a diverse range of health and wellness practices
  • Some familiarity with the unique challenges of supporting children with chronic or developmental conditions
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and facility with technology
  • Collaborative mindset
  • Must consider completing the Epidemic Answers Health Coach Training Program (provided free of charge)

Experience and Education

Bachelor’s degree, and advanced nutrition and/or health coaching certification from an accredited institution; other relevant experiences will be considered.
