What Are Plant Stem Cell Remedies (Gemmotherapy)?
Gemmotherapy uses plant stem cells (PSCs) to assist the body’s innate healing processes gently yet powerfully. These remedies are a type of herbal medicine made from undifferentiated tissue such as buds, shoots, sap, young barks and growing tips of roots of plants that are in the early stage of development. These plant stem cells are similar to stem cells found in the human body that function as the body’s natural healing and repair system. Please note that the use of plant stem cells in gemmotherapy is different from the use of herbs to mobilize and stimulate the production of human stem cells, as we discussed with Christian Drapeau of STEMREGEN.
Benefits of Gemmotherapy Extracts
Throughout much of the book, Payeur details the extensive benefits of these plant stem cell remedies. The reader can search by type of plant or type of condition to determine which remedy may be of use. Given that this type of herbal medicine is relatively unknown in the United States, despite its use being traced back thousands of years through European, Greek and Egyptian civilizations, among others, this layout makes the book a helpful reference guide for those wishing to know more about gemmotherapy and which type of remedy to use.
Payeur lists many benefits of these extracts; among them are:
- Clean, feed and restore organ tissues
- Promote drainage of organs and tissues
- Improve detoxification processes
- Promote rejuvenation of organs and tissues
- Promote tonification of organs and tissues
- Support and enhance regulation activities of the immune system
- Regulate and optimize cell apoptosis
- Protect against free radicals
- Provide ATP-generating properties
- Confer antimicrobial properties
- Provide RNA repair
- Provide adaptogenic support
- Balance hormone production
- Regenerate dying cells
- Oxygenate healthy cells
- Balance electrolytes
- Improve cells’ electrical potential
- Promote deep, restful sleep
- Improve mental clarity
- Maintain clear, healthy skin
- Support metabolic health
Drainage and Detoxification
Payeur points out that many people write or talk about detoxification, but few discuss drainage; plants stem cells can help with both. Detoxification without drainage can be counterproductive, as any homotoxicologist will tell you. Organs of elimination, known as the emunctories, must be open and draining in order for detoxification to be beneficial; otherwise, those toxins that were trying to be eliminated can recirculate back into the body. For example, a child that is constipated will likely have difficulty eliminating toxins from the body.
Healing for Mental, Emotional and Spiritual Issues, Too
In the book, Payeur discusses what she calls Health Coherence, where the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies are in alignment. If they are out of alignment, she makes the case that PSCs can help bring these different aspects of health back into coherence.
Guidelines for Working with Plant Stem Cell Extracts
Gemmotherapy remedies are safe and generally do not have side effects. They are an excellent choice for those with sensitive constitutions, such as babies, elderly people and children with chronic health conditions. Payeur provides guidelines for using these remedies and how to use them with other healing modalities. She shares a basic PSC self-care regimen to maintain and enhance health and also discusses how to use them with pets.
Conclusion
Given the safe, gentle nature of using PSC extracts, they will likely become a part of more people’s healing toolbox for optimal health. Payeur’s book provides an easy-to-digest reference for learning how to use them safely for yourself and your family.
