I helped my son heal from autism. You can too.
My lowest low was when I was told I was likely too old to be a mother, and this is why Thomas was the way he was. I didn’t know how to play with him.
What the Doctor Said
I had already researched some things I wanted to do. We were gonna do diet intervention. I had already gone to an environmental doctor to get Thomas tested, and she said:
“Don’t waste your money or time.
Thomas will never have more than fifty words.
He will never fall in love and save your money because you’ll have to institutionalize him one day when you can no longer care for him.”
She Didn’t Listen to That
The most impactful therapy we tried was diet. We followed the Body Ecology Diet. You know, we kinda did it in baby steps, and it just seemed like as we cleaned his gut up, you know, his brain cleaned up a little bit more and kinda started gaining words again, starting to develop some health self help skills.
Highest Moment
My highest high was when he was released from speech therapy.
“After I graduate, I plan to do graduate school, since I’m doing accounting for my undergraduate, I do plan to get my CPA, certification.
I’m so grateful for my friends, my family, just anyone that, you know, inspires me to be social. Just, you know, communication, person to person, that’s the best way for me to just understand the world.”
