Electrodermal Screening (EAV – ElectroAcupuncture According to Voll)

We all get sick at one time or another, and when that happens your doctor will most likely write a prescription and send you to the lab for a blood draw to see if there is anything abnormal going on with your blood. Although blood tests are necessary for diagnostic purposes, they have many limitations when it comes to determining the patient’s condition in the moment without giving an overall picture of the person’s health and/or mental health status.

The long-term perspective is difficult to predict, making it much more difficult for doctors to be entirely accurate with their patients solely on blood tests. The other major drawback with blood tests is that there is no preventative health measure because all information or knowledge is obtained in the moment when it is too late for prevention. What other options are there besides blood tests which can provide people with health information on their physical and mental state so that they may be proactive in their preventative healthcare? Is there a type of testing that can potentially detect health challenges and specific patterns before they happen?

Bioenergetic Testing

Bioenergetic testing is a non-invasive, safe method of testing the body’s imbalances, accessing the root causes of illnesses even in very complex and difficult cases, and detecting health challenges long before it’s too late. The cells in our bodies store an enormous amount of information and memory including toxins, emotions, viruses and stressors from our environment. It is impossible today to avoid the effects of environmental factors on our health because they affect our quality of life and our energetic pathways.

Bioenergetic testing can detect heavy metals, mold, viruses, bacteria or chemical toxins; nutritional deficiencies; endocrine and hormonal imbalances; stress; food sensitivities and intolerances; and neurological deficiencies. It is a unique way to help prevent the onset of disease or help reverse the already existing imbalances that are causing symptoms of disease long before disease occurs. Unlike plasma, bioenergetic testing can detect reoccurring patterns, which helps practitioners understand and prevent a future disease state in their patients.

Electrodermal Screening (EAV)

One of these bioenergetic technology tests is the electrodermal screening machine called ElectroAcupuncture According to Voll, also known as the EAV machine. It is also known as Electro-Dermal Screening (EDS) or Meridian Stress Assessment (MSA). This type of screening is bioenergetic technology because it measures the life force or qi energy flow that circulates through the twelve main energetic pathways of the body (the meridians) to determine which areas are showing energy blockages. For this reason, some practitioners feel these machines uniquely combine 3,000 years of Traditional Chinese Medicine with the art of homeopathy and/or herbal medicine. Others feel EAV machines measure stress levels in the body because increased stress reduces the amount of electrical flow in the body. When stress levels are reduced, the energetic disturbances return to normal range.

Whichever the understanding, it is safe to say that the EAV machine, like an EKG or EEG, measures circuit conductivity and connectivity. The body creates energy blockages which creates imbalances in organ systems and tissues that eventually can predispose the body to symptoms of disease. EAV health screening tests uses 58 acupuncture points as a Meridian Stress Assessment for the body’s overall health screening. The uniqueness of the EAV machine is that it can identify energetic disturbances and assess the body’s compatibility to different substances. In addition, the body’s imbalances are measured by the electrical conductivity at the acupuncture points on both the hands and feet of the body, the two areas where body organ functioning can be measured.

The History of Electrodermal Screening

In the late 1940s, EAV machines had a very interesting discovery by a German medical doctor, anatomy professor and acupuncturist, Dr. Reinhold Voll, who was studying electrical resistance on the skin. He concluded that acupuncture points have a lower electrical resistance than other points on the skin. What he saw was that the acupuncture points on the skin showed very different electrical behavior as compared to other surface areas of the skin where there were no acupuncture points. He then decided to develop a device to measure the skin’s resistance to the acupuncture points and discovered that each point had a standard measurement for people who are healthy.

Once he understood this information, he then realized that points on the skin that were higher than the standard measurement meant that there were inflammation and energetic imbalances wherever that point was connected to and if there were decreases on these points, then there was some sort of fatigue or tissue degeneration associated with that point and what it corresponded to. With 50 as the mean overall average marker, Voll concluded that if there is inflammation, then there is less resistance, and the reading will be higher than 50. If there is more resistance, then degenerative changes occur, and the reading will be less than 50. The EAV machine was born.

Uniqueness of Acupuncture Points

The uniqueness of acupuncture points as compared to other areas on the skin is very key to understanding the functioning of the EAV machine. What Voll discovered was that any amount of varying pressure of the EAV probe on the acupuncture points had very little change in the measured value because the acupuncture points are close to the surface of the skin, whereas pressure applied to other areas of the skin have a far greater change in the measured value depending on the pressure of the probe. This is a very important point to know about EAV machines to understand the value and efficacy of the information received by the machine and that it is not skewed by the amount of pressure applied to the probe by the operator. Conclusively, this understanding will rule out EAV criticism that the amount of pressure applied by the technician can change the values and vary the results. Critics of EAV machines do not understand this special nuance of using acupuncture points on the skin as opposed to any other random points on the skin.

How Does the EAV Machine Work?

Unfortunately for Voll, there were no computers back in the day, so he painstakingly had to test item after item individually on the testing tray, with lots of patience. Today we have computerized EAV machines to identify what internal and external influences are affecting a person’s health and what the body needs. A reading of approximately 46 to 56 indicates the organ system is in a healthy balance state. Over 56 means the body is overworking with possible acute inflammation, toxic buildup, nutrient deficiency, micro-organism imbalances, and or emotional or physical stress. Under 46 means the body is sluggish, in chronic inflammation, has a deeper toxic buildup and more severe nutrient deficiencies. What is most important is that the body can respond energetically to whatever is being testing on the EAV machine.

For example, the machine can determine which nutritional supplements, homeopathic remedy, medication, crystals, emotions, dental issues (even cavitations), foods, physical and emotional trauma, gut health and microbiome, chronic inflammation, toxins (the list can go on and on) are affecting the body and how. Everything has its own energetic signal and frequency, so the machine can determine if you vibrate or resonate with these signals. An EAV machine is undoubtedly one of the most effective ways to test anyone with allergies and food sensitivities as well. It is also important to remember that the EAV machine can also test the interfering fields as well such as scars, teeth, gums, infections and so on. The testing list is virtually unlimited because the machine can very quickly test what major factors are affecting the patient.

What Does the Indicator Drop ID Mean?

The most important type of reading is the Indicator Drop ID. The reason why this is the case is that patients with a very toxic overload will cause the ID to drop to a lower reading because it cannot hold that number. For example, if you were doing a stress test and there was a problem along a certain energy pathway, the stress test fails. It is very interesting to note that individuals with a toxic overload usually cause the indicator ID to drop on the nervous system meridian. Maybe that is a sign that toxins overload the nervous system which is what happens to people when they have burnout in their adrenal functioning from toxic overloading of heavy metals and pathogens. Testing all possibilities of what can be affecting the patient gives a very clear understanding and better indication of how to help the patient on their healing journey and what their bodies need to function within normal range. For example:

To ascertain that:

Your cells are hydrated on a cellular level
Your cellular metabolism and energy production are optimal
Your body is absorbing nutrients and efficiently eliminating by-products
Your digestion system is functioning including organs, digestive enzymes and leaky gut
Your mineral absorption system is functioning
Your genetic predispositions

To rule out:

You have nutritional deficiencies, chemicals, heavy metals, allergies or infections
You have pathogens like viruses, bacteria, fungus or parasites
You have food or airborne sensitivities
You have environmental toxicity

Healing Remedies

It is very surprising how many conditions are related to digestion and elimination problems which eventually result in nutritional deficiencies. Many practitioners will use supplements, herbs, homeopathy, emotional remedies, flower essences, and minerals to treat deficiencies. However, it is interesting to note that herbs are considered food for the body because of their solid nutritional value of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, essential fatty acids, enzymes and fiber. Herbs, for example, have their own unique energy field and herbal vibration that can be balancing and very effective in healing the body.

No matter what the healing remedy maybe, the EAV machine not only determines the exact dosage of whatever the remedy for each individual but also supports and aids in the healing and balancing process of the body. Lastly, it is always important in the healing process to have a positive affirmation for everyone as a divine message for the EAV machine treatment. One example is repeating mantras such as: “I lovingly forgive and release all the past. I choose to fill my world with joy. I love and approve of myself” will help during the healing process of the mind, body and spirit and is a way of combining both worldly and spiritual healing.

Where to Find an EAV Machine?

Keep in mind EAV machines can be operated by anyone who is technically trained to be able to operate this machine. However, that doesn’t mean a technician is the best choice in finding a person to help you heal. Patients with complex illnesses, holistic-minded individuals, and parents with children who prefer alternatives to western medicine can seek out medical doctors, functional-medicine doctors, osteopaths, naturopaths, acupuncturists, chiropractors, dentists, nutritionists and health coaches who all possibly might use EAV screening as a comprehensive tool in their practice.

What is important to note is that not all practitioners EAV trained are the same, and that there are many different versions of EAV machines such as Zyto and Asyra. The ideal practitioner is one who comes to the table with not only extensive experience with this machine but also with intuitive understanding and compassion to be able to interpret and comprehend beyond the information that is presented by the machine. Your practitioner should understand your energy needs and intuitively be able to help and assist you heal with all the information the machine provides. The result is finding the provider with not only knowledge, but also having the nurturing experience mixed with love and care.

Teresa Badillo received her Honors Bachelor degree from the University of Toronto in 1977.

In the 1980s she worked overseas in Rome, Italy at the Japanese Embassy in the office of the United Nations (FAO) as a speech writer. She also began her long journey in alternative healing while living in Rome.
